Spherical Vacuum Canister
Not all DDI designs focus on improving an existing product or developing a client prototype - sometimes it’s to help improve the environment. A new design can help cut down on excess materials used in the production of a product, which can be beneficial to the environment. That was the case with our Spherical Canister.
Disposable suction canisters have long been established as a safe, reliable way to store and collect waste fluid during surgical procedures. To that end, more than 100 million canisters are created each year. Due to their need to withstand the pressure of surgical vacuum equipment, these disposable canisters require thick, sturdy walls. This generates a large amount of plastic waste. Design Department was up to the challenge of creating a new canister design retaining the same reliability while greatly reducing plastic waste.
This new disposable container has an innovative spherical design which distributes the stress much more evenly compared to prior containers of this kind. Because of this, the 2 liter spherical canister requires half the amount of plastic to produce as the traditional ridged canister. The Spherical Canister designed and developed by Design Department will help keep millions of pounds of plastic waste out of landfills - a huge plus for the environment!
