Rebellion XD Adjustable Cushion Hitch

Our client, Curt Manufacturing, presented us with a challenging project. They wanted to take an established product, a standard drop hitch, which already performed very well, and make it even better. Design Department, Inc. (DDI) accepted this challenge with the added pressure of a quick turnaround on design and development. To that end, DDI produced a new and improved product - the Rebellion XD Adjustable Cushion Hitch.

The Rebellion XD Adjustable Cushion Hitch was designed to have a high load rating for demanding towing requirements complemented by an attractive design. The initial concept of the hitch, provided to DDI as a starting point, was heavy, weighing in at 44 lbs and looked boxy. DDI was able to develop a stunning design concept which eliminated unnecessary material. We reduced the weight to 36 lbs. This is 30 lbs. lighter than Curt's competitors and helped optimize production costs. The new design offers both a 2” and 2.5” receiver enabling up to 20,000 lbs. of towing capacity. DDI was able to deliver an exciting new product combining both durability and reliability in an eye catching new design.

DDI used our extensive experience in analysis and testing to produce the Rebellion XD Adjustable Cushion Hitch prototype. This required multiple prototype development processes such as casting, machining, and stamping. Our high-quality prototype allowed this hitch to enter production quickly.
